A few years after the death of his second wife, John Wesley Hargrove (1854-1939) moved in with his son August L. Hargrove (1898-1971) and his family. He resided there for the next 13 years until his death in 1939.

On December 17th, 1939 John Wesley Hargrove (1854-1939) died in the home of his son August L. Hargrove (1898-1971) in Laurel, Yellowstone Co., MT, USA. He was buried next to his second wife, Mary in what is today Pleasant View Cem., Ballentine, Yellowstone Co., MT, USA. At the time of his death he was 85 years old.

Here is John's obituary that was printed in the Billings Gazetter on December 18th, 1939.
"State Pioneer Dies at Laurel
John Wesley Hargrove, 85, Montana pioneer and former resident of Billings, died Sunday at the home of a son, August L. Hargrove at Laurel. Death was caused by a heart attack.
He was born Oct. 2, 1854, at Waynesville, North Carolina, and was married there in 1879. In 1880 he came west to White Sulpher Springs by covered wagon, and a year later moved to Toston. Mrs. Hargrove died several years after coming to Montana. Mr. Hargrove married Mary Burnett in 1892. He was engaged for many years in farming and the livestock industry, and resided in and near Billings since 1910. Mrs. Hargrove died here in 1922. For the last 13 years Mr. Hargrove had resided with his son at Laurel.
Mr. Hargrove is survived by a daughter by his first marriage, Mrs. Charles Terrell of Vancouver, B.C.; a daughter by his second marriage, Mrs. Oscar Guenther of Chicago; and five sons by his second marriage, William Edwin Hargrove of Billings, Charles Hargrove of Kansas City, Mo., Walter Hargrove of Worden, John Hargrove of Huntley, and August Hargrove of Laurel, and a brother, Julius Hargrove of Clyde Park.
