Millington and Mourning Green-Blalock
About 1711 Millington Blalock I (1711-1770) was born in New Kent, New Kent Co., Colonial Virginia to John William Blalock (1671-1745) and Elizabeth Mary Millington-Blalock (1681-1745).

Millington Blalock I (1711-1770) went on to marry Mourning Green (1715-1781) about 1730 in Hanover Co., Colonial Virginia. Due to Mourning's Native American ethnicity there will most likely NOT be any documentation about this union or her parents. As for any documentation about their children the parish registry books of St. Paul's Parish of Hanover Co., Colonial Virginia have been lost but the vestry books are available.
The Vestry Book of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover County, Virginia, 1706-1786
"Mr. Chamberlayne begins each vestry book with an Introduction that pieces together the formation of the parish and important milestones in its history from published and original sources. Facsimilies of pages from the original vestry books, maps, and photographs help to put each volume into greater context, moreover. Appended to the vestry books are brief lists of the various parish ministers, with an indication of their earliest date of service as found in the records. The transcriptions themselves, ranging from about 250 to more than 600 pages of text, relate to the following issues growing out of the business affairs of colonial parish vestries; namely, payments to persons for services rendered to the parish, oaths and lists of oath-takers, news of the arrival of ministers, the appointment of church wardens, issues related to indentured servants, lists of tithables, payment of salaries and other obligations, the formation of parish precincts with the names of the families apportioned therein, the warding of children, and so on. In each case, these four scarce collections of colonial church records establish the existence of thousands of Virginia inhabitants, each of whom is easily found in the index or indexes at the back of the book" -- publisher website (December 2008).
A note about possible Native American family members;
Millington Blalock was married to Mourning Green, a Native American Women. His son David Blalock was also married to an "Unknown Woman" before remarriage after her death to Anne Beal. David's son, David Harrison Blalock was married to an "Unknown Woman" before remarriage after her death to Karen Vaughn.
It is possible that these "Unknown Women" were of Native blood and I'm almost inclined to agree given the lack of documentation or mention of their names in any records. Both marriage documents for Ann Beal and Karen Vaughn are listed but nothing as to the first wives of their husbands.
It was common for Native women who married into "White" families to also intermarry their female kin as well. We see this possibly happening with the following two generations of the Blalock family with both Millington's son and grandson.
None of these women would have been listed on the DAWES roll as they all died before 1786. It's nearly impossible for me to ascertain anything about them with out a more information about their families. As for Blalock there are 19 listings all of which were born after 1898. As for Green, there are 214 listing all of which were born after 1819.
But both Green and Blalock are accredited sur names in the registry and so is the sur name of Harrison which is a maternal family name for us. As such the custom of the mother using her maiden name as a middle name for a child IE; David "Harrison" Blalock. This will often times give a clue as to the maternal family of the mother when her maiden name is unknown.
From Millington Blalock I (1711-1770) marriage to Mourning Green (1715-1781) at least 7 children were born;
In 1735 their first child, David Blalock (1735-1775) was born in Hanover Co., Colonial Virginia. He went on to marry an unknown women who's maiden name may have been Harrison (Possibly Native American) and from this union at least 3 children were born; David Harrison Blalock 1752-1842 (Unknown Woman possibly Native and Karen Vaughan 1760-1830), Isham Blalock I 1754-1830 (Elizabeth Stancil-Blalock 1755-?) and George Henry Blalock 1756-1830 (Patti Brewer-Blalock 1760-1820). After the death of his first wife, David Blalock (1735-1775) remarried to Anne Beal (1740-?) on March 8th, 1773 in Bute Co., Colonial North Carolina. Anne Beal was born about 1740 in Brunswick Co., Colonial Virginia. Her parents are at this time time unknown. From the marriage of David Blalock (1735-1775) and Ann Beal-Blalock (1740-?) no children were born. In 1775 David Blalock (1735-1775) died in Chatham Co., Colonial North Carolina. At the time of his death he was 40 years old. The death and burial information for his second wife Anne is at present is unknown.
On February 8th, 1741 their second child, Millington Blalock II (1741-1827) was born in Hanover Co., Colonial Virginia. He went on to marry Elizabeth "Eliza" Mason (1745-1825) about 1760 in Louisa Co., Colonial Virginia. Elizabeth "Eliza" Mason (1745-1825) was born about 1745 in Colonial Virginia to Samuel William Mason (1724-1768) and Emily Rader-Mason (1726-1768). From the marriage of Millington Blalock II (1741-1827) and Elizabeth "Eliza" Mason-Blalock (1745-1825) at least 9 child was born; Elizabeth "Betsey" Blalock-Cate 1762-1815 (Robert Cate 1760-1815), William Blalock 1769-1818 (Mary Cash-Blalock 1775-1850), Millington Blalock III 1773-1837 (Rebecca Philpot-Blalock 1775-1850), John Blalock 1775-1846 (Catherine "Katy" Cash-Blalock 1776-1850), Lucretia "Lucky" Blalock -Cash 1777-1847 (John Cash 1774-1810), Frances Blalock-Jacobs 1779-1847 (John Jacobs 1775-1820), Robert Blalock 1781-1847 (Nancy Blalock-Blalock 1785-1812 and Judith Pearce-Blalock (1794-1858), and Mary "Polly" Blalock-Blalock 1785-1847 (Thomas Blalock Jr. 1782-1837). In 1825 Elizabeth "Eliza" Mason-Blalock (1745-1825) died in Person Co., NC, USA. She was buried in Old Blalock Cem., Hurdle Mills, Person Co., NC, USA. At the time of her death she was 80 years old. In 1827 Millington Blalock II (1741-1827) died in Person Co., NC, USA. He was buried next to his wife in was buried in Old Blalock Cem., Hurdle Mills, Person Co., NC, USA. At the time of his death he was 86 years old.
In 1742 Hanover County was divided to make Louisa County. The side closest to New Kent County would stay Hanover County and the side furthest inland would become Louisa County. Because Millington Blalock died in Louisa County in 1770 I can only assume his homestead was originally located further inland and that in 1742 would have become property in Louisa County, Colonial Virginia.
